GPS, the most effective tool for outdoor navigation, fails to work indoors. Buildings too weaken a GPS signal. GPS also can’t provide any info about the floor where the user is located.
That’s where Indoor Positioning enters the picture.

Real-time location system (RTLS) is a technology used for Indoor Positioning. This video illustrates an instance of indoor positioning using a TDoA based RTLS system.
